Why Texter exists
By 2023 there were a dozen excellent application-layer SMS platforms (SimpleTexting, EZTexting, SlickText, TextMagic, and others). They're all good at what they do — broadcast-driven messaging for businesses with relatively simple needs.
What didn't exist: a platform that took the specific operational realities of regulated and specialized industries seriously. Medical practices need HIPAA-aware workflows with a BAA. Real estate teams need sub-5-minute lead response integrated with Follow Up Boss and BoomTown. Auto shops need MPI photo estimates wired into CDK and Tekion. Law firms need state-bar-aware messaging tied to Clio and MyCase.
We started Texter to fill that gap — a managed SMS platform with vertical workflows, native CRM integrations, AI replies that actually handle open-ended messages, and the compliance heavy-lifting handled. From the start, we've been honest about what we are and what we use: we use Pi-hole's blocklists for ad-related filtering, we route through Twilio and VoIP.ms for carrier delivery, and we contribute back to the open-source projects we depend on.

Every feature ships because a specific vertical (healthcare, real estate, auto, legal, retail) needed it. We build for the job, not for a marketing slide.
Real AI, not keyword templates
LLM-class responses on customer messages, not "if you say HELP we send template 4." The difference shows up in customer-service workflows.
Compliance is the floor
A2P 10DLC, TCPA, HIPAA, DNC — handled by us, not handed to you as a checklist. Penalties for getting this wrong have real teeth.
Honest about what we are
We use open-source where it makes sense, integrate via native connectors where Zapier isn't enough, and tell you when something else would fit your use case better.

Generic broadcast-only SMS
If your use case is "text my list once a week with promotions" and you have no vertical-specific needs, SimpleTexting or EZTexting might fit better. Both are mature, polished, and excellent at broadcast-driven messaging.
Raw developer-platform APIs
If you have an engineering team and want to build the inbox, AI, scheduling, compliance, and integrations yourself, Twilio is the right call. Texter is the application layer Twilio doesn't ship.
Voice broadcast
SMS-only platform. If you need recorded voice messages blasted alongside SMS (political campaigns, large-scale community alerts, traditional dealer-network communications), EZTexting handles voice broadcast natively.
International-first deployments
We're optimized for US carrier compliance (A2P 10DLC, US TCPA). Multi-country deployments are possible via Twilio backend routing but not the core use case. International-first businesses are better served elsewhere.
